KABUL – Chaired by H.E. Jawed Ludin Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs the preliminary session at the senior officials level of the Heart of Asia Countries and supporting countries, and attended by the representatives of the United Nations and other international organizations, was held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The session was held to prepare for the Kabul Conference which is due to be held at the ministerial level in June this year to follow up the Istanbul Process.
Jawed Ludin in his inaugural speech said that: “ We are pleased to host the first preparatory meeting for the convening of regional conference which is due to be held in June this year in Kabul and have with us countries of the Heart of Asia. We are hopeful to have detailed discussions regarding Kabul Conference and the decisions of Istanbul Regional Conference which was held in November 2011 and hosted by the Republic of Turkey.”
He added that “Istanbul Process is among the most important actions in regional cooperation and there is tremendous hope that it will contribute to the creating of the environment of trust and the strengthening of stability and promotion of prosperity at the regional level, because the process is related to the region. The step is not just for Afghanistan, but it will also result in the environment of friendship, cooperation and trust dominating at the regional level so, we can utilize the existing potentials.”
Previously, the preparatory meeting on follow up to the Istanbul Process was held at the Ambassadors’ level on February 5, 2012 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Istanbul Process is also a process which was created by the countries of the Heart of Asia region and their international supporters at “Istanbul Conference for Afghanistan: Security and Cooperation in the heart of Asia” held on November 2, 2011 in Turkey for peace, security and prosperity in Afghanistan and enhancing of integration and confidence building at the regional level.
