Deputy Foreign Minister Meets World Bank Country Director for Afghanistan

KABUL-H.E. Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil met in his office today with World Bank's Country Director for Afghanistan, Mr. Shubham Chaudhuri.

Explaining the activities of the World Bank in Afghanistan, Mr. Chaudhuri noted that the World Bank has direct cooperation with the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, especially with the Ministry of Finance and other concerned departments in developmental sectors and areas.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs expressed his appreciation of the World Bank’s cooperation in various spheres in Afghanistan requesting more support and cooperation of the Bank in terms of capacity building among government employees, creating job opportunities and water management.

The World Bank economic cooperation with Afghanistan is said to have reached an annual amount of 1.1 billion dollars which has been mostly spent on building infrastructure, energy production, resettlement of the displace people and on women empowerment.
