Deputy Foreign Minister Meets Chinese Assistant Foreign Ministers

BEIJING – Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Hekmat Khalil Karzai met the Assistant Foreign Ministers of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Zhang Hanhui and Mr. Kong Xuanyou.

In these meetings, the Deputy Foreign Minister appreciated Chinese cooperation in various areas particularly for hosting the trilateral meeting between Afghanistan-Pakistan-China on Counterterrorism and the peace process. Mr. Karzai also discussed and exchanged views on the upcoming 18th Heads of States Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to be held on 9-10 June this year in Chengdu city of the Peoples’ Republic of China as well as the meeting between the two countries’ heads of states in the sidelines of the summit.

The Deputy Foreign Minister called on his Chinese counterparts for acceleration in the completion of projects awarded to Chinese firms in Afghanistan.

Afterwards, Mr. Geng discussed the cordial relations between the two neighboring countries and cooperation in various bilateral and trilateral settings and reiterated his country’s commitment in realization and follow up of the issues under discussion and the trilateral mechanisms between Afghanistan-Pakistan-China. He also expressed his support of the ‘Peace Offer’ of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan that was presented at the Kabul Process II meeting and stated that, “peace talks with the opposition is the best option for putting an end to war in Afghanistan”.
