Deputy Foreign Minister meets with Secretary of the Indian External Affairs Ministry in Moscow

MOSCOW – Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai met with the India’s Secretary of external affairs ministry one day before the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Contact Group meeting.  After congratulating India for acquiring full membership to the SCO, Deputy Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of the SCO for Afghanistan and this meeting in particular that is about Afghanistan.  He emphasized about the importance of this meeting that aims to support the priorities of Afghanistan in areas of security, peace and economics because Afghanistan and the SCO have the same geography and therefore same fate.  Deputy Foreign Minister also requested India’s support for Afghanistan’s full membership to this importance organization. 

Secretary Ghanashyam reiterated India’s sustainable support to Afghanistan as a strategic partner and neighbor and stressed the need for the SCO Contact Group meeting to put Afghan priorities at its focus and pledged to support these priorities including Afghanistan’s full membership to the SCO.
