Newly-Appointed Head of EU Delegation to Afghanistan Pays Courtesy Call to Acting and Deputy Foreign Minister

KABUL – The Newly-appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Afghanistan Mr. Pierre Mayaudon paid a courtesy call to the Acting and Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Nasir Ahmad Andisha this morning.

Welcoming Mr. Pierre to Afghanistan, Acting Minister appreciated the EU’s important political and economic support for Afghanistan over the last sixteen years and hoped for further strengthening and expanding these relations.

Pointing to the US new strategy for Afghanistan and the region, both sides discussed the follow up and implementation of the new economic diplomacy; the modality of continued fight against terrorism and administrative corruption in Afghanistan; the peace process and attracting EU’s cooperation in this regard; role of neighboring and regional countries, especially China, Russia, Iran and India in ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan; and implementation of the largest economic and transit projects in the region.

While emphasizing position and economic policy of the EU on supporting the peace process and strengthening the economic sector in Afghanistan, Mr. Pierre added that he would not spare any efforts promoting relations between Afghanistan and the EU during his mission in Afghanistan.
