IEA Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in a telephone call with his Iranian counterpart Amir Abdullahian discussed bilateral issues.

The two sides discussed Afghan travelers and refugees’ overall problems in Iran, recent incidents, security of diplomatic missions and diplomats, trade, economy, and other issues of mutual interest.

Minister Muttaqi said an Afghan delegation would soon visit Iran to discuss issues of Afghans residing and incarcerated in Iran.

The two sides said that some antagonist circles exploiting media are trying to sow enmity among the Afghan and Iranian people, paving the way for violence. Stressing prevention of such issues, the two sides pledged to allow none to create an atmosphere of mistrust and a gulf between the two friendly and neighboring countries and people.

The Iranian FM expressed pleasure over IEA leadership’s order to ban narcotic cultivation and trade, assuring cooperation with Afghan traders to create alternative livelihoods.

Minister Muttaqi thanked the Iranian FM for expressing goodwill, adding that his endeavor is for Afghan traders to be enabled to copy, cultivate, and utilize Iranian agriculture to grow accepted fruitful products instead of opium.

The call ended with both sides hoping for enhanced bilateral relations and expressing goodwill.
