Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan

We welcome the release of an innocent Guantanamo Bay detainee, Asadullah Haroon, resulting from direct dialogue & positive relations between the IEA & the USA, & we consider this step positive & beneficial for improving bilateral relations.

The IEA seeks positive & constructive relations based on bilateral cooperation with world countries including the US. As the Afghans have been hit by floods & earthquake, & are in critical need of humanitarian assistance — we again urge the US to remove sanctions on the Afghan banking system so that the humanitarian aid delivery process is expedited & made easier. And similarly, that the Afghan bank reserves are unfrozen. The IEA is hopeful that the last remaining innocent Afghan, Muhammad Rahim Sekundar, held at Guantanamo is also freed & able to rejoin his family in his homeland.
