The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. Filippo Grandi called on IEA-Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The two sides discussed the challenges faced by Afghan nationals who are being forcibly repatriated from Iran and Pakistan, as well as the assistance being provided to them.
FM Muttaqi said that forcibly deported migrants should be given the opportunity in host countries to settle their accounts and to sell or transfer their properties before returning, adding that, in this hot weather, they require additional facilities.
FM Muttaqi mentioned that while the government is extending all possible support to its people, their problems are numerous and assistance from international organizations is needed.
Mr. Filippo Grandi stated that they will closely assess the situation of the deported migrants, and will assist them to the best of their ability, noting that the UNHCR has been assisting Afghan refugees for several decades and will continue its support in the future.
The Foreign Minister assured him, on behalf of the Islamic Emirate, of full cooperation.
