Mrs. Edem Wosornu, OCHA’s Operations and Advocacy Division called on IEA-Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi

At the outset, Mrs. Edem expressed grief & condolences for the recent floods in different parts of the country, & affirmed her determination to dispatch her teams to the affected areas immediately, adding, She also extended gratitude to IEA-MoFA for the efforts directed at establishing a coordination committee between the IEA & the United Nations bodies.

Hailing OCHA’s efforts in poaching aids to Afghanistan & coordinating aid, FM Muttaqi alluded to the recent floods in the country, saying as Afghanistan has not contributed in the deterioration of the climate, but it has been mostly affected from this phenomenon, adding further, he called on those countries having played a major role in the deterioration of the climate, but do nothing to compensate for the damage, to take responsibility for the extreme effects of the climate change.

Additionally, calling the recent flooding extreme destructive, FM Muttaqi said that I would like to convey this message through you that Afghanistan needs as much help it has suffered. The position of IEA should be voiced in the international climate forums, & it should have access to financial funds of climate change.

Terming the recent waves of floods extreme destructive & calling for the need of extensive assistance, FM Muttaqi said that despite the fact that IEA has used all its possible means to assist its people but considering the scale of the incident, it necessitates the participation of the international aid organizations to fulfill their responsibility thereof & take immediate actions.Mr. Andrika Retavati, Kabul based UN-representative said that we have always conveyed your voice to the international community that Afghanistan has suffered the most & is in the dire need, & we have exerted efforts to stop linking humanitarian assistance with political ends.
