Today, Foreign Secretary of India Vikram Misri, met with IEA-Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.
During meeting, in which IEA Deputy Ministers of Commerce & Transport were participated, comprehensive talks were held on political, economic and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
Expressing gratitude for India’s humanitarian assistance, FM Muttaqi underlined a desire of strengthening political & economic relations with India as a key regional & economic player, in line with IEA’s balanced & economy-centric foreign policy.
Assuring the Indian delegation that Afghanistan does not pose a threat to any nation, FM Muttaqi expressed hope for raising level of diplomatic relations, and easeing visa regime for Afghan businessmen, patients and students.
Underscoring historical ties between India-Afghanistan, Mr. Misri reaffirmed India’s desire of strengthening bilateral relations, adding that India has provided humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan over the past three and a half years, and seeks to assist Afghanistan in infrastructure development projects.
Further appreciating IEA’s efforts in ensuring security, and combating narcotics and corruption in the country, Indian Foreign Secretary emphasized India’s interest in expanding political & economic relations with Afghanistan, and promoting trade through the Chabahar Port.
In the end, the two sides agreed to look into facilitating trade & visa processes.
