Foreign Minister Meets with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister

IEA-Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Moscow.
The meeting focused on political understanding between Afghanistan and Russia, as well as the expansion of economic, trade, transit, and energy cooperation between the two countries.

FM Muttaqi, noting the positive trajectory of political relations between the two countries, expressed appreciation to the Russian leadership for its positive policy towards Afghanistan. He stated that the existing political understanding should be translated into practical economic partnership. He emphasised the expansion of trade, transit and regional connectivity, Russian investment in Afghanistan, joint cooperation in the fields of energy and mining, and the establishment of banking and payment facilitation mechanisms.

Mr. Alexei Overchuk expressed Russia’s readiness to expand economic cooperation, noting that favourable conditions have now emerged for launching practical cooperation.
He also emphasised expanding cooperation with Afghanistan in the areas of transit, transportation, energy, and other sectors, highlighted the significant increase in bilateral trade over the past year, and expressed hope that further practical economic cooperation between the two countries would be established in the near future.
