New EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan Calls on Foreign Minister

Mr. Thomas Frellesen, the newly appointed EU Special Envoy for Afghanistan, called on the IEA-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.

During the meeting, acknowledging the Islamic Emirate’s achievements in ensuring security and combating narcotics, Mr. Frellesen exchanged views with the FM Muttaqi on a range of humanitarian and political issues.

IEA-Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that, notwithstanding Afghanistan’s achievements in preventing narcotics production, the international community has yet to provide Afghan farmers with the requisite assistance for alternative livelihoods or undertake other necessary measures in support of these efforts.

The EU Special Envoy reaffirmed that the European Union’s official position favours the consolidation of security in Afghanistan and the fight against narcotics, expressing readiness to pursue efforts towards cooperation across various sectors.
