UN-SRSG & Head of UNAMA, Ms. Roza Otunbayeva, called on IEA-Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The meeting focused on the needs of returnees, the problems faced by Afghans residing across the world, progress made in the country, the growth of the private sector, investment promotion, & several other issues.Appreciating UNAMA’s continued support, FM Muttaqi expressed readiness for further cooperation, stressing the need for the Afghan government to have access to Afghan nationals residing in Europe so that consular services can be provided to address their legal issues and defend their human rights.
He further requested UNAMA to focus on facts in its reports so that the progress & overall stability in Afghanistan can be accurately shared with the international community.Appreciating IEA in particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for their cooperation, Ms. Otunbayeva emphasized that the United Nations stands with the Afghan people, adding that UNAMA is working to facilitate the return of refugees & promote investment in Afghanistan to create job opportunities.
She noted that international assistance to Afghanistan is extending beyond humanitarian aid & now includes development support as well.Ms. Roza also pledged that in future meetings of the United Nations & the Security Council, she will share updates on the progress and opportunities in Afghanistan with the international community & convey the messages of the Afghan government.In the end, both the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and UNAMA emphasized the importance of close and joint cooperation.
