Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, called on IEA-Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The meeting focused on the overall state of cooperation between Afghanistan and the United Nations, humanitarian assistance, and the importance of joint and coordinated efforts to address the needs of returning Afghan refugees and facilitate their sustainable reintegration. Discussions also focused on Afghanistan’s specific needs in the areas of climate change and water, the need for enhanced cooperation in these fields, as well as the regional situation and an exchange of views thereon.
The two sides discussed ways to identify new opportunities within the framework of the Doha Process and underscored the importance of cooperation that yields practical outcomes and positively impacts the lives of the people.
Given the existing realities, emphasis was placed on the importance of using accurate information and reliable sources to ensure a more accurate and balanced reflection of Afghanistan in reports, statements, and assessments.
Concerns were also shared regarding civilian casualties resulting from airstrikes carried out by the Pakistani military regime, and the importance of protecting civilians and preventing similar harm was discussed.
The two sides also exchanged views on the arrival of Ms. Rabab Fatima, the new UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, as well as the necessary coordination and cooperation with her.
To end, both sides underscored the importance of continued mutual understanding, constructive engagement, and further strengthening cooperation.
