The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan categorically rejects the decision by the entity referred to as the “International Criminal Court” to have issued arrest warrants for the esteemed leadership of the Islamic Emirate and three other leaders, and deems this decision as a clear violation of Afghanistan’s national sovereignty, independence, and the established principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
The entity’s continued selective and politicised approach, as well as its efforts to use international judicial mechanisms for political purposes, have raised serious concerns regarding its impartiality and credibility.
The Islamic Emirate has no form of cooperation or engagement with the said entity and categorically rejects any jurisdiction it purports to exercise over the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The fact that Afghanistan is not a member of the entity, as well as the invalidity of the unilateral and imposed membership of the previous administration, was clearly stated in a statement issued by the Office of the Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate on 19 February 2025.
The entity’s previous association with the former administration, which was established under foreign occupation, has no legal validity for present-day independent Afghanistan. The Islamic Emirate calls on all relevant parties to respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence, and the Afghan people’s sovereign domestic choices. Afghanistan remains ready to engage with the international community in a constructive and meaningful manner based on mutual respect.
However, interference in the country’s internal affairs, the imposition of judicial jurisdiction, and any attempt to exert political pressure are unacceptable.Afghanistan will continue to articulate its position clearly in defence of its sovereignty and independent decision-making and will not allow political or judicial mechanisms to be used as instruments of pressure against Afghanistan.
