Today, IEA-Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi held a telephonic conversation with Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The two sides exchanged views on strengthening political relations following the official recognition of the Islamic Emirate, expanding economic cooperation, and addressing regional matters.
Expressing gratitude for the Russian Federation’s decision to recognise the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, FM Muttaqi described this step as a crucial milestone in the course of bilateral relations, noting that this recognition has not only opened avenues for political and economic cooperation between the two countries but also constituted an unprecedented step towards Afghanistan’s integration into the international community.
Additionally, FM Muttaqi stressed the importance of cooperation in combating narcotics, implementing regional projects, and developing transport corridors.
Commending the Islamic Emirate’s efforts in preventing drug trafficking and ensuring security, the Russian Foreign Minister stated that the recognition of the Islamic Emirate has created unique opportunities for political, economic, and international cooperation between the two countries, the tangible outcomes of which will be witnessed in the near future.
Mr. Lavrov stressed the key role of regional mechanisms in expanding engagement with the Afghan government, and in this context, he extended an official invitation to the Afghan Foreign Minister to participate in the upcoming Moscow Format meeting for further discussions.
