The Head of the Asia-Pacific Region of IFRC, Mr. Alexander Matheou called on IEA-Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi.
Appreciating the services of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Afghanistan, FM Muttaqi emphasized effective cooperation in assisting Afghans in need. He also called upon the IFRC, as well as all other international charitable organizations and foundations, to continue supporting vulnerable Afghans, in particular noting that the recent surge in the return of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and Iran has created an urgent need to provide them with shelter, clean water, healthcare services, and economic opportunities.
Furthermore, FM Muttaqi requested that well-equipped and standard clinics be established in Afghanistan to treat children suffering from CHD.
Mr. Matheou stated that currently, assistance is being provided to around 300 clinics and hospitals in Afghanistan,promising to further expand this support. Additionally, he appreciating the Afghan government for its cooperation in ensuring fair and effective provision of services, and pledged to accelerate efforts in treating children with heart disease and to continue supporting poor and needy Afghans.
To end, both sides expressed commitment to continue cooperation, enhance humanitarian assistance, and comprehensively discuss funding and equipping healthcare centers in Afghanistan.
