Today, UNAMA head Deborah Lyons and accompanying delegation called on Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi. The meeting focused on important issues including the economic situation, banking and private sector growth and assistance.

Highlighting her visit to Almaty, Ms. Lyons added that UNAMA and the U.S. do not want the weakened banking sector in Afghanistan, showing confidence that the impediments ahead would be resolved through dialogue. Also, the UNAMA delegation member Mr. Atul Gupta said he was working to establish channels for the economic and private sector growth in Afghanistan to coordinate with various donors. Minister Muttaqi thanked Ms. Lyons for sharing information on her visit to Almaty, calling it positive, adding that the new government intended to fully cooperate with those institutions that work for Afghanistan’s progress and development.
