The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan considers the recent decision by the United States to designate Afghanistan as a state sponsoring “wrongful detention” as regrettable.
The Government of Afghanistan underscores that the nationals of no country have been detained as a means of leverage. Certain individuals have been detained on charges of violating established laws, & in many instances, they have been released in the normal course following the completion of legal procedures.
It is worth noting that over the past year, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has taken positive steps in goodwill regarding the cases of several detained U.S. nationals.
Furthermore, discussions between the Government of Afghanistan & the United States have been held at various levels with the facilitation of the State of Qatar. During these discussions, both sides made commitments to undertake a number of positive measures.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seeks for this matter to be appropriately resolved & concluded through the ongoing discussions & constructive engagement between the two sides.
