The Deputy Special Representative of UNAMA in Afghanistan, Mr. Marcus Potzel accompanying a delegation called on the Deputy Minister of Foreign affairs, Alhaj Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai.

At the outset, welcoming the delegation, Mr. Stanakzi held a range of discussions regarding political issues, banking restrictions, banning the cultivation and smuggling of narcotics, and in particular the issues of climate change.

Mr. Stanekzai said that we want to close the chapter of war in Afghanistan, and open a new chapter of diplomatic relations with the world in bid to address the existing problems through dialogue, meanwhile, we expect the same demeanor from the other side too.

Adding further, Mr. Stanekzai said that the level of poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has been reduced to zero, the rehabilitation of drug addicts has commenced, and serious measures are being taken against those who selling and buying drugs, considering the initiative as joint obligation of IEA and international community.

Mr. Stanikzai urged them not to spare their assistance towards supporting the farmers by providing an alternative of poppy cultivation, removing banking restrictions and fighting climate change.

Marcus Potzel acknowledged the the efforts of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and added that UNAMA is trying to create a basis for international cooperation with Afghanistan and pledged to work together with IEA.
