A delegation of 7 members of Iranian House of Representatives led by Jawad Karimi Qudosi called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Amir khan Muttaqi.

During this meeting, several issues in regards with security, combating narcotics preventing smuggling, protection of borders and trade were taken into detailed discussion.

FM Muttaqi said that Afghan security forces have been able to eradicate the menace of Daesh ensuring the overall security throughout Afghanistan, which is not only in the interests of Afghanistan but also in the interests of the region and the world, adding that the IEA has taken effective measures to counter narcotics, bringing poppy cultivation to almost zero.

Mr. Muttaqi said that during time of the previous government of IEA, Afghanistan had only thousands of drug addicts, but during the course of last 20 years of occupation, this number surged to 4 million people, adding that, we have rehabilitated tens of thousands of drug addicts in last few months months, which will continue.

FM Muttaqi said that trade and transit are ongoing with the countries of the region, including the neighboring countries, and Afghanistan is now becoming a hub of trade for the countries, reiterating that Afghanistan serves as a good market for Iran’s industrial goods, therefore, it is necessary for Afghanistan and Iran to bring about more facilities in terms of trade and transit and take maximum advantage of this opportunity.

The delegation of the House of Representatives said that the two sides should work together and find a solution for issues regarding preventing smuggling, border management, and preventing the movement of people without valid documentations.

They also said that Iran is ready to share its experience with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in different areas.
