IEA-Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, held a telecon with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations, Afg–US engagement, regional developments, & recent Afghanistan–Pakistan dynamics.
Extending appreciation to the UAE for its successful mediation in the release of a US detainee, FM Muttaqi expressed readiness to thoroughly resolve the remaining issues through bilateral engagement.
Regarding the regional situation, FM Muttaqi stated that, unfortunately, the war initiated by the US & Israel against Iran has raised serious concerns, warning of broader regional risks & describing the expansion of the conflict as a matter of serious concern & condemnation, while also calling the UAE’s restraint & prudence commendable.
Regarding relations with Pakistan, FM Muttaqi reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to resolving issues through dialogue, not allowing its territory to be used against Pakistan, & noting that concrete measures have been taken thereof. Additionally, he stated that all military actions taken by Afghanistan against Pakistan have been defensive in nature, & that Afghanistan reserves the legitimate right to self-defense in case of aggression.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, underscoring the importance of Afghanistan–US relations, reiterated the UAE’s readiness to play a constructive role. He also noted that Afghanistan–Pakistan tensions serve no party’s interest & confirmed continued UAE efforts toward de-escalation.
In conclusion, he assured FM Muttaqi that, given the current situation, special attention will be rendered to the safety of Afghan nationals residing in the UAE.
