Remarks by IEA-MoFA Spokesman regarding the UN General Assembly meeting titled “The Situation in Afghanistan” & Resolution A/79/L.100
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan views as positive those aspects of the resolution that acknowledge its achievements in ensuring security and countering narcotics, as well as the calls for humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, the removal of obstacles to Afghanistan’s economic growth, and for countries to engage constructively with Afghanistan free from rivalries.
Meanwhile, with respect to some of the allegations and accusations contained in the resolution, the Islamic Emirate reminds the United Nations of the following realities:
First: The resolution’s endorsement of previous UN resolutions, reports, and assessments particularly in the areas of security and human rights and using these as a basis for argumentation, is the continuation of the same narrative shaped under pressure and directives of certain countries founded on the denial of ground realities.
Second: Although the resolution concerns Afghanistan’s situation and requests cooperation from the Islamic Emirate in various areas, at neither the drafting nor adoption stages was the input of the Islamic Emirate sought, which in itself raises questions about the accuracy and practicality of parts of the resolution.
Third: Nonetheless, the Islamic Emirate will assess the recommendations and requests, and will identify areas for possible cooperation in line with Islamic precepts and our national interests.
