The Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, Mr. Ted Chaiban, accompanying a delegation, called on IEA-Deputy Foreign Minister, Dr. M. Naeem.
The meeting focused on children’s rights, the polio eradication drive, returnees, health, education, & a range of other humanitarian & social issues.
Dr. Mohammad Naeem stated that the Islamic Emirate considers children’s health & education, facilitation for returnees, & the provision of humanitarian services among its top priorities, with ongoing practical efforts in these areas, noting that vulnerable & orphaned children engaged in street begging are being gathered, provided with access to education, given training, and assisted financially if their families are in need. Returning Afghan refugees are also being allocated land.
Furthermore, DFM M. Naeem stressed that the international community & relevant human rights bodies must fulfill their responsibilities & continue their support, especially in ensuring urgent and long-term support for Afghan returnees from Iran.
Dr. M. Naeem underscored the importance of prioritizing the recruitment of Afghan nationals in international organizations operating in Afghanistan, utilizing local products, making local procurement of necessary logistical supplies, & ensuring that international assistance is more coordinated and targeted. He also reiterated the call for the release of Afghanistan’s frozen assets, describing it as the right of Afghas & urging the relevant parties to meet their obligations.
Mr. Chaiban appreciated the efforts & cooperation of the Islamic Emirate & affirmed continued support in education, housing, agriculture, & other relevant areas.
