Deputy Foreign Minister Holds Meeting with Diplomatic Corps Based in Kabul

IEA-Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammad Naeem briefed the representatives of diplomatic missions in Kabul on the recent talks held between Afghanistan & Pakistan in Istanbul, as well as on the official position of the Islamic Emirate.

Dr. Naeem stated that the main challenge during the Istanbul talks was the presentation of unrealistic & impractical demands by the Pakistani side. Adding further, he said that attributing Pakistan’s internal security problems to Afghanistan shows an unwillingness of certain circles within the Pakistani military to find a negotiated solution for bilateral issues.

DFM Dr. Naeem said that the irresponsible & uncooperative spirit demonstrated by the Pakistani delegation prevented the talks from producing any outcomes despite the goodwill of the Islamic Emirate & the sincere efforts of the mediators.

DFM Dr. Naeem reiterated that Afghanistan remains in close contact with the mediating countries & stands ready to return to dialogue whenever Pakistan demonstrates goodwill & a reasonable, pragmatic approach in its demands. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan remains committed to resolving issues through diplomacy & understanding.
